What's New For 2024?
Performance
All new Suburban models feature three engine options, each of which is equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive. The base engine, which is found in every model except the High Country, is a 355-hp 5.3-liter V8. However, in models like the RST, Z71, and Premier, a 420 hp 6.2-liter V8 is an available option, although this engine is standard in the High Country. And in every model except the Z71, a 277 hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder diesel is available.
Towing
With so much power offered, the Chevy Suburban is a serious hauler. The four-wheel-drive diesel Suburban has the lowest tow strength at 7,800 pounds. However, with rear-wheel drive, the 355-hp 5.3-liter V8, and the Max Trailering package, the Suburban can reach its max tow cap of 8,300 pounds.
Fuel Economy
The Suburban is an all-around solid SUV but not the most fuel-efficient. According to the EPA, The standard 5.3-liter V-8 is estimated at 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. But, with the available diesel engine, those numbers increase to 21 mpg in the city and 27 on the highway, though with the rear-drive version.
Design
The exterior of the Chevy Suburban is the same as it's always been: long, boxy, and imposing. Then, there's the interior, which is comfortable thanks to the increase in space in the second and third rows. Second row passengers will also appreciate that the seats can now slide forward or backward.
Most of the Suburban's popular options, such as wireless phone charging and heated-and-ventilated seats, return, but its head-up display is bigger for better visibility. Drivers will also like the increased cargo area that now offers 145 total cubic feet of space when the seats are folded.
Technology
As a family-friendly SUV, the Chevy Suburban has been equipped with many features to keep passengers entertained. There is an optional rear-seat entertainment system with two 12.6-inch screens mounted behind the front seats and a Wi-Fi hotspot for streaming. Front seat passengers will also enjoy the standard eight-inch infotainment screen, but we recommend purchasing a higher trim to take advantage of the 10.2-inch monitor that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety Features
Along with a robust list of tech, Chevrolet has also given the Suburban a suite of advanced driver-aids. Features like forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and parking sensors all come standard. But in higher trims, more advanced features become available, such as adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, and Super Cruise, a hands-free drive mode.
